KOREAN/CHINESE NEW YEAR
The biggest Korean Holiday of the year is coming up - Chinese New Year, called Sol-nal. This holiday is a big family holiday in Korea. Since all of our Masters cannot go home for the holiday, we will celebrate it here.
They celebrate the New Year at this time because they follow the Moon or lunar calendar. At this time in Korea, everyone ages one
year. That is why the YEAR you were born is more important than the actual DAY you were born (in Korea). One of the traditions is to wear traditional clothes. Don’t be surprised if you see the masters wearing Hahn-bokes. Another tradition is for all the children to learn the most respectful bow - all the way down to the ground to their elders. The masters will teach you how. They wish good health and prosperity for the new year. The elders then give money (taekwondough in our school) to the children for showing their best respect. Everyone greets each other by saying: Say-hay Poke Mon-hee Pah-du Sey yo.
